*grilling on a monday afternoon*
So, a few months ago, before I graduated, I decided that I needed to get rid of every remnant of the things I had been keeping in this box under my bed for about 2 years. I decided that I needed a clean slate and so I called up my friend Figgins and he and I went out to a field on a very clear and starry night and watched it all go up in flames. Every last bit of it. It felt really good to drive away from that pile of ashes. Almost like I was sending out a dare to fate to make a phoenix rise up from those ashes.
Well, a few days after I graduated, I discovered that I had in fact not burned everything that had been in the box. There were about 20 pictures that I had left out and I ran across them when I was cleaning my room. I've been so busy with work and whatnot that I really hadn't had a proper chance to dispose of them in my favorite fashion...until today that is.
I finished my book today...the one I've been writing for the past few months, and decided to celebrate by grilling out. I lit each picture on fire and said goodbye to them all. It felt like I was finally getting a sense of really being rid of all those stupid memories and things.
I don't think there ever really is a time when you can say that you are ready to move on. There just comes a point when you decide that every day from then on you will wake up and decide to be over it. The memories are still there and the hurt and all that, but you just decide to become master over it and hand it over to God.
In that sense, I am moving on.
Speaking of moving, I ran in my first ever 5K race on Saturday night with Andrea. If you want to see my results, go to the website listed below and do a search for my name. I was pretty happy with my time and am going to start training for the Race for the Cure today. Heck, I was just proud to finish sprinting. I think I'm in better shape that I've been in since high school!
