"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful." - Col. 4:2
*i am a thankful girl*
Ok, my turn. What am I thankful for you ask? Well here you go!
I am thankful that my mom hasn't remembered that I still have 2 wisdom teeth, for misty English afternoon, running shoes, T-shirts in Youth-Large, dental floss, pictures of old friends, mint chocolate chip ice cream, people who are excited about trying new things, possibility, the refugees from Kosovo that live in Richmond, the men and women serving overseas and at home, toe rings, flip flops, strawberry incense, cous cous, all the gelatto that I ate in Italy, the amber stained glass in the Vatican, e-mail, clock radios, shower radios, singing in the car, literacy, the original Nintendo, 80s movies, milk chocolate, sleeping in, staying up late, having someone play with my hair, having someone play with my hair without having to ask them to do it, remembering a memory so wonderful that it makes you cry, my sister (Karen), the way my hair curls sometimes and is straight others, elegant black dresses, boys that open doors, cheeky little smiles, being free to follow wherever my heart may lead, paper clips, safety pins, sweet potato fries, used book stores, sunflower seeds, warm sugar cookies, vanilla candles, having someone finish your sentence, knowing that I will be loved every day of my life, uncertainty, Chuck Taylors, drawing little stars on everything I own, Sharpie markers, skirts that blow in the wind, crepes, Redneck neighbors and John Deere, forgetting things that hurt, real fireplaces, fake tattoos, the emotions of God, the color green, blue eyes, the way a guy's hair is really soft when he just got it cut, trivia games, file folders with colored tabs, top spiral notebooks (I'm left-handed), maps of the world, brightly painted walls, hiking trips, Nalgene bottles, the diploma on my wall, lunar eclipses, fuzzy bath towels, painting my toenails in neon colors, the music of Jimmy Eat World, falling in love, strawberry pop tarts, falling in love again, emeralds, leaps of faith, Victor Hugo, Tiepolo, Michelangelo, the Ninja Turtles (the other one was the actual artist), caves, kisses in the rain, Ecclesiastes, CD mixes, rocks thrown at my window in the middle of the night, baklava, cards from friends far away, poeple who never say "off the record," and a few other things.
I had Thanksgiving dinner today with those Kosovar refugees that I mentioned above. One of the couples from the church that brought them to America hosts a dinner each year, and this year I was inivted. Considering that this is my second year EVER away from home on Thanksgiving, I decided to go. It was well worth it. I got to eat traditional American food, as well as some tasty treats from Kosovo. They were all very excited that I came (I'd been working on a series of stories about them for the newspaper, so we'd met) and one of the matriarchs of the families told me that she loved me. I'm not sure if she really meant to say that, because she only spoke limited English, but it was cute. I told her that I loved her too and then she kissed both of my cheeks and hugged me.
